IMPORTANT NOTICE:
DO NOT go through the Hazard area on highway 28 as you would have to turn onto highway 2022. This is a 1 lane road for 9 miles from Buckhorn. Not meant for larger trailers/campers.
Also, avoid satellite navigation up "Little Bullskin or Whoopflarea Road". Those are trails we use for ATV riding. Not suitable for a truck & trailer.
Directions from Mountain Parkway/Lexington/Winchester:
• Take I-64 to Mountain Parkway
• Follow Bert T Combs Mountain Parkway E to Slade/Natural Bridge Exit then follow KY-11 S to Booneville. Note: You will lose cell service until you get the the campground here shortly after passing thru Booneville. Do not travel to Buckhorn from Booneville unless you want to eventually travel a 1 lane road.
. At the junction of highway 11 turn left towards Oneida
•Stay straight and this road turns into highway 1482
• Do not take Little Bullskin Road or Whoopflarea Road. Road is an ATV road only! Avoid this road on the GPS.
• Follow HWY 1482 to Panco then turn onto KY HWY 484. There is a big wooden church at this junction.
Note: You will pass two gas stations from Booneville to the campground. These are the only two gas stations in the area. They do not sell alcohol.
• In 2.4 miles take a sharp left turn onto KY 2022. There is a dirt bypass for larger trailers/campers to use. Look for a sign that says “Buffalo Campground” on a power pole.
• Stay on KY 2022 (1 Lane) until you come to the top of the mountain and turn right onto Gaysmill Loop road. Green road sign is the left of the road. If you miss this turn, at the bottom of the hill you can veer right onto gravel road and come up the hill to the campground. HWY 2022 is curvy and not necessarily made for larger trailers/campers.
• Follow dirt road for almost 1 mile until you see campground sign.
Directions from Hal Rogers Parkway Hazard/London:
• Follow Hal Rogers Parkway to Exit 34 (Also known as Redbird Exit or Exit 66) then follow KY-66.
* Turn right in front of the gas station once off the parkway. At the end of that road, turn left towards Hyden.
• Take HWY 1482 to Oneida. This is a left turn in front of T Mart gas station. This gas station has the essentials but does not sell alcohol. Note: this is the last gas station & you will lose cell service until you get the the campground here.
• Follow HWY 1482 to Panco then turn onto KY HWY 484 up the hill on the right. There is a church at this junction.
• In 2.4 miles take a sharp left turn onto KY 2022. There is a dirt bypass for larger trailers/campers to use.
• Stay on KY 2022 (1 Lane) until you come to the top of the mountain about 0.9 miles & turn right onto Gaysmill Loop road. Green road sign is the left of the road. • Follow dirt road for almost 1 mile until you see campground sign
